EPF ECR due date for September 2026 extended to 31 October 2026

EPFO has extended the due date for filing the ECR and paying PF contributions for the September 2026 wage month from 15 October to 31 October 2026, because the wage ceiling changed mid-month.

Date
13 Oct 2026
Type
Circular
Issued by
Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO)
Effective
September 2026 wage month only
Applies to
All establishments covered under EPF

Key points

  • Due date for September 2026 ECR and contribution moved from 15 October 2026 to 31 October 2026.
  • Reason: the EPF wage ceiling rose from ₹15,000 to ₹25,000 on 17 September 2026, making September a split month for PF calculation.
  • The extension covers the September 2026 wage month only. October 2026 contributions remain due by 15 November 2026.
  • EPFO has stated that no other obligation under the Act or Schemes is relaxed.

What employers should do

  1. Compute September PF in two parts: 1–16 September on the ₹15,000 ceiling, 17–30 September on the ₹25,000 ceiling.
  2. File one ECR for September 2026 and pay by 31 October 2026.
  3. Do not treat the extension as applying to October 2026 or later months.

To verify: The circular does not mention any waiver of damages or interest. Check the circular text on the EPFO portal before relying on this.
